vNode OPC UA Client Module

vNode Automation OPC UA Client and Server module, will provide full connectivity to any OPC server vendor and also to OPC UA Client. Reading and exporting data to the major applications, such HMI, SCADAS, CLOUD environments, and much more.

OPC UA Client Module

OPC UA is an industrial protocol for automation. Its main objective is to achieve end-to-end communication between industrial equipment such as PLCs, RTUs, DCS, sensors, HMI systems, SCADAs, as well as cloud applications and IoT environments.

OPC UA technology allows to standardize on a protocol and not on a product, it makes possible the easy integration of devices and systems from different brands and manufacturers.

Unlike the Classic OPC technology which is linked to COM / DCOM Windows (Microsoft), OPC UA can become indifferent to the operating system or the environment where it can be implemented either Linux, Windows, Android or even embedded systems, likewise the client-server connection methods are based on TCP with security level encryption managed by digital certificates and encryption. Its data modeling is a unified combination of DA, HA and A&C specifications.

OPC UA Client Module: Main Features

The vNode OPC UA Client module allows to communicate with any third party OPC UA Server in real time UA specification and pull its information to be shared through the different ways and protocols used by vNode Automation.

  • Automatic data browsing.
  • Supports Real-time UA DA specification.
  • Supports encryption methods in security policies and digital certificates.
  • Allows authentication by user and password from the OPC UA server.

Communication and Security: OPC UA Client Module

Communication: Convert and Transmit Data

vNode Automation provides solutions that enable OPC UA communications through its OPC UA Client and OPC UA Server modules, which have the necessary functionalities defined in the OPC Foundation stack. There are 2 encoding formats to convert and transmit data:

  • OPC UA XML: serializes the information in XML format to be delivered to applications that can support it, requires more processing capacity, the messages are extensive, that´s why it needs more buffer space.
  • OPC UA BINARY: lighter and better performance, it is the most used method.
OPC UA messages are transmitted over a TCP/IP connection and use 2 types of sessions to send them:
  • OPC UA TCP
  • SOAP/HTTP

Security

Security at the transport and session level involves data encryption managed by user authentication and digital certificates.

Security policies at the OPC UA level make it possible to secure and validate a client-server connection.

Paradigm of use

Josh Parker is an amateur engineer who works in a manufacturing plant, his superiors asked him to perform a plant integration within the cloud.

They are evaluating Amazon web services as it Cloud provider for the Big data analytics and reporting dashboards.

Josh, has been working with plant floor devices, specifically with controllers, the plant has different kind of PLCS from different vendors, and the major part of the data is coming from them.

Josh need to link PLCs data up to AWS, but he doesn’t know how to communicate each other.

Josh, knows that Amazon Web Services could read data over OPC UA, by acting as a client.

By looking on the web, www.vnodeuatomation.com , he found that vNode platform will act as an IoT gateway which integrates OT with IT solutions.

Is this case, vNode can collect data from the PLCs in different protocols and the transfer the data over its own OPC UA server to AWS.

Josh start testing vNode solution in free trial and he realized that this will really fits in its implementation.

If you’re in Josh Shoes, take a look to vNode IoT gateway and solve your connectivity issues!
